But don’t forget to enjoy the journey.” Mr. Nguyen Tuyen, Chairman of Viet Huong Flavour and Fragrance JSC, was citing Professor Michael Josephson — Founder of the Joseph & Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics in Los Angeles — during his speech at the company’s 30th anniversary celebration on the evening of October 10th.

According to Mr. Tuyen, Today, as we gather here in celebration, what we sincerely wish to share with you is not merely the pride of our past achievements nor the ambitions for the future, but the excitement, fulfillment, and meaning that we have found throughout this entire remarkable journey. “What makes a person happy?” he asked, noting that it is difficult to provide a truly complete answer. However, Harvard University launched the world’s longest research throughout ¾ of a century to understand this. They took in thousands of college students, professors, and employees of the school and of Boston city.

Every year, or after a specific period of time, they would quiz these subjects about their marital status, family relationships, careers, etc, and evaluate their happiness level. After 75 years, the researchers compiled the statistical data for evaluation and analysis, finally discovering the answer to the question: “What makes a person happy?”

The answer is very simple.

What makes people truly happy is not money, fame, or power, but the “relationships” – connections between human beings.

“It is the relationships between us that make us happy,” Mr. Tuyen said.

Another interesting finding from this research is that those who frequently serve others will be 6 times happier than those who do not.

“This has been the core meaning of our thirty-year journey: to be able to serve our customers, partners, and our beloved colleagues!” the Chairman of Viet Huong concluded his brief speech to a warm round of applause from the audience.
